WHY YOU SHOULD ONLY GET YOUR SECURITY SYSTEM FROM A SECURITY LICENSED ORGANISATION

Most people know that installing a CCTV security system in your home or business has a number of benefits – chief amongst which is the fact that even the sheer presence of alarms helps decrease the chances of being burgled.

Research has found that when alarms were present and visually noticeable, burglars avoided these homes. Some studies have even concluded that a burglar is about 2–3 times more likely to be deterred by an alarm.

However, what a lot of people don’t know is that you need specific accreditations to be able to install security systems in NSW – including NSW Police accreditation. Here’s the lowdown on the licences you need and why.

Key licences

At minimum, three licences are required to be able to sell, supply and install security systems, including CCTV and/or alarms:

  • Class 2B Security Licence: Sell security equipment and provide advice on its use
  • Class 2C Security Licence: Security Equipment Specialist – Sell, install, maintain, repair, service and provide advice in relation to security equipment.
  • Master Security Licence: (SLED) includes NSW Police background checks.

If you’re looking at getting a security system installed, ensure your provider has all of these licences! It is a legal requirement for all security providers to present evidence of these licences during any communications, including site visits and documentation.

Electricians are not security installers

Choosing the right professional for your security needs is crucial. While electricians are experts in electrical wiring and electrical systems, they are not necessarily equipped to handle comprehensive security installations.

Unfortunately, unlicensed electricians often attempt to pass themselves off as security professionals, leading to subpar installations and potential security vulnerabilities.

By selecting a licensed and experienced security installer, you ensure that your system is designed and implemented with the highest standards of expertise and reliability, safeguarding your property and loved ones effectively.
